Dispatch from ‘The Other Side’ – A Recruiter’s Tip for YOU!

In Today’s Dispatch from the Other Side I want to give EVERYONE a huge tip.

I am going to change your career’s life!

On average, I personally see 50 to 100 resumes per day. I see a lot of great resumes and others that look as if they were run over by a train. Most of them leave off some very simple yet important information.

Let’s say the format is good and your resume is free of clutter.

You list your current and previous employers.

It might look something like this:

Production Manager

Unipres Inc. 2005-2018

(insert job responsibilities)

Production Supervisor/Manager

General Electric 1998-2005

(insert job responsibilities)

On the surface this appears to be adequate.  Even with this very abbreviated example there is information missing that can help you move to the top of the class.  Let’s do a bit of ‘problem solving’ on this resume.

What is a Unipres? What do they do?

We all have heard of General Electric but is this a facility that makes Turbine Engines or Electric Blankets?

Adding a very brief synopsis below your employer’s name can be a game changer for you.

Let’s now look at an improved version of this same mini-resume

Production Manager

Unipres Inc. 2005-2018

(A Tier 1 Automotive supplier of stamped metal components for Ford, GM and Honda)

((insert job responsibilities))

Production Supervisor/Manager

General Electric 1998-2005

(An aftermarkets automotive part supplier of metal components for AutoZone)

((insert job responsibilities))

It’s an easy addition to any resume and it tells an entire story! This small addition says what your specific facility did, what possible processes you were involved with, what environment you were in and even who your employer’s customers are. This one addition paints a vivid picture and leaves little room for ambiguity. Don’t assume that Recruiters or Human Resource professionals know exactly what your employer does.

This one change could help YOU stand out beyond the other candidates you are competing against and help you be the first to be called for that new job opportunity!
